Former presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, has run to court, seeking an order, restraining Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) from impounding his new luxurious car.
He filed the suit against the Commissioner-General, URA, in the Civil Division of the High Court in Kampala on Monday.
Kyagulanyi seeks a declaration that URA does not have powers to call for, threaten to impound his motor vehicle, registration No. UBJ667F, Toyota Land Cruiser V8, for re-examination under Section 236 (d) of the East African Community Customs Management Act.
Through Wameli and Company Advocates, Kyagulanyi says he is a law-abiding citizen, who has all times met his tax obligations under the law.
“The plaintiff (Kyagulanyi) and his properties have on several occasions been the target of different government agencies and bodies and as a result, his personal life and properties are under threat,” reads part of the court document.
Kyagulanyi says in the recently concluded presidential elections, he was severally attacked by security agencies, forcing him to don and use bullet-proof jackets and ballistic elements during the campaigns.
He says his motor vehicles including a Tundra have been illegally and unlawfully confiscated and are packed at Arua Central Police Station since 2018.
