The National Resistance Movement Electoral Commission committee has quashed the election of former education minister Jessica Alupo over vote rigging.
The declaration was made today in Kampala after consideration of a petition filed by Violet Akurut Adome, citing voter bribery and intimidation of her supporters by Alupo’s camp.
Akurut had filed a petition to the NRM Electoral Commission over the outcome of recently concluded NRM party primaries for Katakwi district saying that elections were marred with irregularities such as voter bribery, intimidation of her supporters and issues which were taken before the NRM National Electoral Commission to handle.
In a letter signed by Deputy Chairperson NRM Electoral Commission John Kigyagi Aripa indicates Akurut as duly elected NRM flag bearer for Katakwi Woman MP of parliament.
According to the results declared by the Katakwi district NRM returning officer in the September elections, Alupo beat the incumbent, Violet Akurut Adome with 38,582 votes against 29,435.
