Over 50 ‘Covidiots’ arrested in Kampala while sanitizing throats over the weekend

Police in Kira Road last night carried out a joint operation on enforcing Ministry of Health guidelines in Ntinda and Kiwatule after receiving a complaint from residents that some crowd gather in a certain apartment located in Balintuma village near Firidina Road to drink alcohol without observing MoH COVID-19 guidelines despite virus’ rapid transmission.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said that the crowd could not only drink alcohol but also loudly play music hence causing noise pollution in the area that disrupted the peace of wananchi (ordinary people) and also defying the Presidential directives.
“There was fear that their inconsiderate behaviour could spread Covid-19 within their village,” he said.
Onyango said that the arrested suspects are all detained at Kira Road Police on allegations of disobedience lawful orders and also doing a negligent act likely to spread and infection of disease.
In a related operation, Kabalagala Police also carried out an operation on enforcing the ministry’s guidelines in Bunga at Nomads Bar where 49 people were arrested.
Onyango said that the suspects who are currently detained at Kabalagala police station, include the owner of the bar Fred Kamau and his 8 managers.
On Friday, Uganda confirmed 318 cases, the highest number of cases confirmed in a single day in the country.
