Prime Minister Dr. Rugunda Mourns Fallen Icon Karwemera  As  Burial Is Set For Tuesday

Omugurusi Karwemera died on Sunday morning at around 4am at Rugarama Hospital where he has been receiving treatment of multiple organ failure due to old age which is the cause of his death.

Eulogies continue to pour in since his passing from all corners of the country especially from those who have shared the wisdom of the old man from both at distance and the that has had an opportunity to face-off with him.
And among them is the Prime Minister of Uganda Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda who is also one of his former student at Kigezi high school said Kigezi as a region and Uganda and Africa has lost a legend who lived an exemplary life as a teacher, public servant, researcher, author and custodian of the rich cultural heritage
“We celebrate his life and his contribution and thank God for giving him a long and impactful”. Dr. Ruhakana added.
Other Eulogies;
Conon Eng. Ivan Batuma who said  before starting voice of Kigezi radio in kabale in January 2000, he approached the deceased and he accepted to volunteer in mentoring the radio presenters on effective communication in local language because the radio aimed at serving the community. He worked with them for selfless 10years.

The parish priest of Kitanga Catholic Parish, Rev. Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda who doubles as the chairperson Kigezi inter-religious council and vice chairperson of Kick Corruption out of Uganda has mourned the popular Runyankole-Rukiga local language author and translator, Omugurusi Festo Karewemera who passed on at the age of 95.

Gaetano said the deceased has left a strong legacy because he wasn’t sectarian in any way and besides his contributions towards maintaining local languages relevant, Mzee Festo was a pillar in Uganda and Africa.

‘The living, especially his family and we the elders should now take it crucial to protect his legacy. The best gift we can offer heroes is imitating their examples,’ he added.

The deceased is remembered for a range of historical concepts, especially authoring Runyankore-Rukiga content/books like Empandiika ya Runyankore-Rukiga,Egufuhaziibwe.

Meanwhile, According to Robina Tugume the deceased’s  daughter, Karwemera will be buried on Tuesday at his ancestral home in Bugarama, in Buhara subcounty Kabale district.
