The Electoral Commission has warned presidential candidates who are flouting the coronavirus set guidelines to stop before they swing into action.
Recently, the ministry of health increased the number of people attending rallies to 200 from the usual 70, however, a section of presidential candidates have continued to flout these guidelines with thousands of supporters attending the rallies.
Without mentioning names, Paul Bukenya, the EC spokesperson said that the commission has written to some of the candidates warning them to stop flouting the guidelines.
“We have written to them asking them to respect the covid-19 set guidelines but if this persists, we shall call them back to office for a meeting. And of course, no one wants to miss a day or two of their campaigns given the limited period of campaigns,” Bukenya said.
Kampala Sqoop has established that the two candidates who are in hot soup include National Unity Platform’s Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and Forum for Democratic Change’s Patrick Amuriat Oboi.
The two candidates have been seen all over the media with thousands of crowds in their rallies.
As seen by the picture and videos making round on media, Bobi Wine is the biggest crowd puller in the ongoing ‘scientific’ campaigns with thousands of supporters thronging his rallies.
On his return to Arua, Bobi Wine pulled a huge base of fans and supporters who cheered the musician cum politician like there is no more coronavirus in the country.
On the other hand, FDC’s Amuriat also continues to pull crowds during his rally in Teso sub-region.
However, the incumbent, Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni has continued to respect the covid-19 guidelines. He has had one of the most silent campaigns ever in his political career with a strict number of campaign attendees.
