Uganda registers record Covid-19 cases in one day

Uganda has recorded 66 new cases of COVID-19, the highest figure ever to be recorded in a single day since the first patient was registered in March.

The Ministry of Health announced Sunday that results from tests done on Saturday indicated that 66 new COVID-19 cases confirmed. The cumulative total confirmed cases of Ugandans are now 1,500.

Of the new cases, 53 are from alerts while 11 are from contacts of previously tested cases. Two cases are returnees from Oman and Ethiopia.

Of the alerts, 30 are from Kampala, six from Namisindwa, seven from Wakiso while 10 are from Tororo, Moroto, Katakwi, Buikwe, Bukwo, Bundibugyo, Mbale, Isingiro, Hoima and Buliisa.

The 11 contacts are from Kampala (9), Namisindwa (1) and Nakaseke (1).

“16 foreign truck drivers tested positive for COVID-19 at the borders and their entry into the country was not permitted,” the ministry said.
