Uganda showed up and showed out in China.
From 1st to 5th May 2026, Ugandan entrepreneurs took the best of our country to the 139th Canton Fair in Guangzhou. This is the biggest trade fair in the world — 32,000 companies, 314,000 buyers from 220 countries. And Uganda’s flag was flying high.
Our Ugandans stars who roast coffee at dawn, press shea butter with care, and weave crafts with love. They carried our story 9,000 kilometers to meet the world.
And the world noticed.
What This Means For Ordinary Uganda
The farmer in Bugisu is smiling. “China now knows our Arabica. If one buyer takes my coffee, my grandchildren will study well.”
The mother in Arua making shea butter is proud. “People from 220 countries saw our product. That means my village has a chance to grow.”
The youth in Ntinda weaving sandals is inspired. “I showed my crafts to buyers from Japan, Germany, Brazil. One message can change my life.”
The boda rider in Kampala is hopeful, if these business people succeed, maybe my customer base will grow. When exports grow, Uganda grows.”
That’s the mood — optimism. Because Canton Fair opened doors.
What Elite Uganda Celebrates From Guangzhou
The trade expert in Mbarara is excited. “Canton Fair is the Olympics of trade. Uganda was not watching — we were competing. Our coffee and shea butter stood next to the world’s best, and we belonged there.”
The banker in Nakasero sees opportunity. “314,000 buyers means 314,000 chances. Even 10 serious contacts from this fair can transform a company. This is how exports start — one handshake at a time.”
The exporter in Namanve is energized. “We learned what buyers want — good packaging, steady supply, beautiful branding. Now we go home to improve. Canton Fair is our classroom.”

The economist at Makerere is encouraged. “China is a market of 1.4 billion people. If Uganda gets just 1% of their coffee demand, our farmers will never be the same. The potential is real.”
The diplomat is beaming. “This is economic diplomacy working. Uganda is not just asking for aid — we are bringing products to sell. That’s how we build respect.”
The Big Wins Uganda Is Bringing Home From Canton
One: Uganda Was Visible. Out of 32,000 companies, Uganda had a stand. Out of 220 countries, our name was called. Buyers who never heard of Ugandan shea butter touched it, smelled it, asked for samples. That’s marketing money cannot buy.
Two: We’re Learning To Sell Finished Products. Our entrepreneurs didn’t just carry green coffee beans. They brought roasted coffee packs. They didn’t bring raw shea nuts — they brought branded lotions. This is how we add value. This is how we earn more.
Three: Networks That Last Beyond May. Canton Fair doesn’t end on 5th May. The online platform stays open all year. Our exhibitors exchanged WeChat contacts, emails, WhatsApp numbers with buyers from Asia, Europe, America. The follow-up starts now.
Four: Young Businesses On The World Stage. Megkari Coffee, RhinoSeeds Africa — these are not 50-year-old companies. They are young Ugandans with dream and drive. Canton Fair proved that our youth can compete globally when given a chance.
Five: Proof That “Made In Uganda” Is Global. When a Chinese buyer asks for your crafts, when a German buyer tastes your coffee and smiles, it confirms what we know — Uganda has quality. Our job now is to deliver consistently.
What Happens Next? The Beautiful Work Begins
Turn Contacts Into Contracts. Our exhibitors came back with business cards and inquiries. The next step is samples, quotations, and shipments. UEPB and UIA are ready to support with export guidance.
Improve, Package, Brand. Canton Fair showed us global standards. Now our producers are investing in better packaging, barcodes, certifications. Every fair makes us sharper.
Use The Online Platform Daily. With http://cantonfair.org.cn open 24/7, our companies can upload new products, respond to inquiries, and join virtual matchmaking. Trade never sleeps.
Government And Private Sector Moving Together. This trip showed the power of partnership. When government opens doors and entrepreneurs walk through with quality products, Uganda wins.
Think Continental, Sell Global. Canton Fair had buyers from 220 countries. Uganda wasn’t just pitching to China — we pitched to the world. That’s how we diversify markets.
Canton Fair 2026 reminded us of something important, The world wants what Uganda has.
They want our coffee that grows on Mount Elgon. They want our shea butter from the Nile region. They want our crafts made by skilled hands.
And for the first time, thousands of buyers got to see, touch, and taste Uganda.
To the entrepreneurs who spent their own money to go to Guangzhou — thank you. You are trade ambassadors. You carried Uganda’s dream in your suitcase.
To the farmers, the processors, the weavers back home — keep the quality high. The world is watching.
To the young Ugandan reading this — your product can be next. Start small, dream big, and prepare. Because the next Canton Fair is coming.
China opened a door from 1st to 5th May. Uganda walked through with confidence.
Now we deliver.
Because trade builds nations. And Uganda is ready to trade.
The journey from Kampala to Guangzhou is long.
But the journey from sample to container has begun.
And that, is a win worth celebrating.
