Under the slogan “For the Love of Ugandan Music,” the Zzina Awards is an annual ceremony that celebrates Uganda’s top musical talent, hosted by Galaxy FM.For the 12th consecutive year, the organizers awarded local artistes, audio producers, and songwriters at an exclusive, red-carpet ceremony held at the radio station’s headquarters in Kansanga, Kampala, on Thursday, February 13th.The night was hosted by Galaxy FM presenters Mr. Henry and Florah Show, with a mix of glamour, excitement, and entertainment. It kicked off early with a pre-awards show, leading up to the awards session which began just after 9 PM with a musical performance by rising singer Tracy Melon.Dax Vibez, whose song Tabbu featuring Ava Peace won Best Contemporary Urban Song, was the first artiste to be awarded, followed by winners in 19 other categories.Each category had an award presenter and among the presenters were artistes such as Phina Mugerwa, Laika Music, Jowy Landa, Khalifah Aganaga, Coco Finger, and other entertainment industry figures like MC Kats.The ceremony featured exciting musical performances by artistes such as Recho Ray, Dokta Brain, Kataleya and Kandle, and Elijah Kitaka, without forgetting DJs Denno and Magic Touch’s that kept the crowd energized.
Some of the highlights included Benon Mugumbya receiving the Legend Award, Ava Peace being crowned both Artiste of the Year and Best Female Artiste of the Year, and Jowy Landa’s daring outfit that set tongues wagging. Singer and song writer Dokta Brain also had an emotional moment, giving away his award and Elijah Kitaka delivered a heartfelt message about unity and love to his fellow artistes.
