President Museveni has vowed to defeat presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi in the 2021 polls.
“Whether Ugandans want Bobi Wine or “Bosco” (I am made to understand that means Museveni), that is a matter that will be settled early next year,- said Museveni in a social media post on Thursday.
Bobi has already picked presidential nomination forms from the Electoral Commission.
The musician-turned-politician has since rallied the youth to throw their weight behind him in the forthcoming polls.
Museveni today moved to tout Bobi whose National Unity Platform (NUP) lost your the ruling NRM in the recently concluded youth elections.
“However, recently we had semi-finals in the form of elections of the disabled, the elderly and the youth. Who won the matches in the 3 matches?” wondered Museveni.
“Bosco won without too much preparation. I am looking forward to the finals.”
NRM won 48,550 (78.88%) village youth council chairperson positions while independents came second with 15% while NUP emerged third with 1,447 positions.
It remains unclear if Museveni feels Bobi is his formidable challenger in the forthcoming polls.
FDC has always put up the stiffest challenge to Museveni’s hold onto power but with Kizza Besigye out of the 2021 race, Bobi could take the position of Uganda’s opposition leader.
Museveni also blasted Bobi’s foreign supporters.
“Greetings to your foreign backers who fear a strong Uganda,” Museveni told Bobi, adding, “Too bad for them.”
Museveni didn’t mention names but several high profile figures in United States and Europe have publicly expressed support for Bobi’s presidential bid.
